Recognising Concerns
Recognising Abuse and Neglect
Abuse can take many forms. Recognising concerns early helps ensure individuals receive the protection and support they need.
Physical Abuse
Physical harm, assault, inappropriate restraint, or misuse of medication.
Emotional or Psychological Abuse
Threats, intimidation, bullying, coercion, harassment, humiliation, or controlling behaviour.
Financial Abuse
Fraud, theft, exploitation, scams, or misuse of money, property, or possessions.
Sexual Abuse
Any sexual activity or behaviour that takes place without valid consent.
Neglect and Acts of Omission
Failure to provide appropriate care, support, supervision, or access to necessary services.
Discriminatory Abuse
Unfair treatment based on age, disability, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or other protected characteristics.
Organisational Abuse
Poor care practices, procedures, or cultures that place individuals at risk.
Self-Neglect

We encourage service users, family members, employees, healthcare professionals, and members of the public to raise concerns about unsafe care, poor practice, misconduct, or behaviour that may place someone at risk.
